About Us

Peace Memorial Presbyterian Church, organized in 1891, is a community of faith committed to following Jesus Christ. We belong to the Reformed family of Christian faith with a form of government that is representative in leadership (both clergy and church members). We have a particular way of thinking about God and God’s relationship to the world. We are a brand of Christians called Presbyterian and we are part of the Presbyterian Church USA (PCUSA).

We believe in a living God who creates, sustains, rules and redeems the world. We believe that we know God best through the Old and New Testaments, the Bible. We believe that because God loves the whole word, God sent Jesus the Christ (the Messiah) to redeem us and the world. We believe when we hear the stories of Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection, we hear who God is. We believe that Jesus died for us and because God is a God of life, Jesus was raised from the dead. In Jesus we have new life and the promise of life eternal.  In gratitude for God’s gift of Jesus Christ, “we seek to serve Christ in our daily tasks and to live holy and joyful lives as we watch for God’s new heaven and earth, praying, “Come, Lord Jesus.” [from A Brief Statement of Faith]

We believe that God calls us to be ‘doers’ in this world so we reach out to share the love of Jesus Christ in word and deed in the world. We teach and preach the good news of Jesus Christ to young and old alike, we work to alleviate hunger experienced by families, children and homeless folks; we care for children and older adults alike, and support educational ministries near and far away.    We believe that God calls us to be examples of Jesus Christ, to identify spiritual gifts and to equip and support Christians of all ages for faithful service in the church and in the world. We do that through worship, bible study, prayer, and giving ourselves away in service to God and our neighbor.

Our mission statement and guiding principles provide the 'road map' of how we are to live as Jesus' followers.
